Crawdad Gallery - Colors, shapes and sizes

I enjoy throwing jigs and am always fascinated by how many different colors, shapes and sizes of crawdads there are. So last night I put together a crawdad picture gallery so maybe those that make jigs and plastics as well as us fishermen could maybe get some other color ideas...hope it's helpful.

much appreciated. obvious now why the most popular colors do what they do. anyone know what a freshly molted craw looks like?

Crawdad Gallery - Colors, baits and catches

Couple years back I researched the area crawfish colors, why and when they changed colors...then kept a few spit up and a few from smaller bass I keep 6-8x a year...
then took closeups and had a lure painter do a few Bandit Flat Maxx cranks to match as best I could...had some success...also modified my jig trailers color-mix wise...
its an "area thing" as far as us bassers and colors...
Others may have done better and maybe they will post how to apply crawfish colors' knowledge to catching more bass in their area...its a real neat / challenging field...

Heres a Video of FLW National Guard Pro Explaining Craw Colors Per Season/Local/Habitat and how it affects there colorings

I make custom plastics and craws of coarse are a big seller and i see some interesting requests, but this has helped in knowing which colors to load MY Boat with!

    Re: (chumscustoms)

Dominant are a dark red with a spot of orange here and there...then when growing fast (May-July is my guess)...they get a lot greener...I try to pay close attention to livewell claw pieces, especially if they look fresh...its amazing what different added colors in tiny spots you can see very close up also...
did a lot of research on this and had a half dozen custom painted cranks made...caught keepers, especially after late spring/summer rains and such...

Awesome job now I just need to know the ones that are in my California lakes. The last crawdad that I seen was orange. I kick myself in the butt for not taking a picture of that crawdad. Thanks for all the hard work put into this it truly is amazing.
Just remember it's not about the fish but they sure are fun to catch.

id like to see a chart that shows how a crawfish changes color at certains times of the year. and the time frames they stay that color. i dont know if that is possible or not.
