I'm not sure what website i copied this to my computer from but here it is ---3 to 4 days before and after a full moon, throw a brown and orange, or olive and orange jig. As the moon gets farther past full, opt for a black and red. On dark, new moon nights, go with dark brown and black. As the new moon graduates to a sickle moon, black and blue is the hot color. Iv'e used this basic guideline for over 10 years, works well for me day or night fishing

I don't use a Black/Blue much; mostly some form of Green Pumpkin/Brown and maybe more Reddish-Brown/orange or early spring when I see craws that color. I was always under the impression craws molted around the Full Moon; and Black/Blue was the color to use? Now I'm going to have to re-think what I thought I knew.

None of the colors match crawdad's I've caught

Main color was "battleship grey" with splotches of pale red and pale blue. Both on Lk. Washington, near Billy Gates' house. C&R

The great thing about crawdads is, if you're not catchin fish you can play with the bait. I've chased my daughter around the boat many a time when she was a little girl.

IMHO...Live Target larger dark green craw crank with the nice orange belly is #1...
also LCraft 3.5 RT rattling red craw crank works well at half speed (always crank craws at a slow speed)...
actually caught 3 on the 3.5 this morning after 1.25 inch rain yesterday...

I'm trying to collect a Texas based sample monthly on a few lakes so that I can make a few jigs for personal use throughout the year. This one is from a few months ago and the jig I built afterwards.

Chris, is that one from Lake Austin or a different Austin Area lake?

Has anyone ever tried setting out a crawdad trap in different parts of their local lake at different times of the year to get a better idea of how their color change as the seasons change? Did it help you increase your catch rate?
