If your catching crawdads on a green pumpkin brush hog (20ft deep and they won't let go)....
    Don't change colors, or baits.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

    Re: Colors (Bass Hawk 87)

Thanks for the colorful insight to crawfish colors... Here in So. Cal i mainly see the bright red ones and the greyish green ons. There is a place that my buddy has access to that has the real blue ones... trippy... Awesome pics...

    Re: Colors (bassfishinfrank)

Saw a biologist report on crayfish. Just a little hint. On a red clay bank, orange claws and tints are prevalent. On rocky shores, the blues and grays are the norm. Think camo always.

Very interesting! In Florida and a few other states, there's electric blue craw dads, they're freaking weird!

Probably why I've had such a great time throwing the Paca Craw's lately. Black/Blue and Pumpkin/Red are my favs because they seem to be the fishes favs too.

    Re: Colors (Bass Hawk 87)

I think the link is broken from Don's original post. I have looked up the crawfish pics that he originally posted and found the link. Here's the new link:

    http://www.ncwildlife.org/Wild....html

I'm going to copy and paste his old writing with the new links to the pics.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Bass Hawk 87 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Ever wonder where some of the colors we use came from? Many are meant to represent local baitfish or sunfish, but others are meant to mimic crawfish.

Whether we see them or not, most of the waters we fish have crawfish in them.

Here are just a few of the many, many crawfish that are found around the country. These photos are from North Carolina, but some of them are amazingly similar to some of the most popular colors among anglers no matter where they fish.

Maybe it will help explain why these colors seem to produce so well for us.

Notice how much these look like the Watermelon Red Flake and Green Pumpkin colors?

Still wonder why red and orange colors work so well in late winter and early spring?Might even help explain Bubblegum and Merthiolate colors.

How much does this look like Watermelon Seed?

How about Pumpkinseed or Cinnamon black flake with a chartreuse tail?

To see more of these different varieties take a look at this site from North Carolina Wildlife:

    http://www.ncwildlife.org/Wild....html

See, sometimes those colors really do look like something, even if we don't see them Maybe it helps explain why on some days the addition of a chartreuse, blue or even a red tail seems to entice strikes.

We all know how deadly a jig can be year round as it is most often used to imitate these creatures. During the colder months however, it becomes even more deadly because it represents a big, and relatively easy meal for lethargic bass.

    </TD></TR></TABLE>

Hope this update helps someone catch more fish. It's good to have it working again

I am glad to see this post pinned so it wont go away. Look at the date when the post was started 2005 Don shared a lot of wisdom. For those that have not been around BBC for a long time Don is no longer with us. He passed a few years ago and he is truly missed
