    Its a thumb thing mostly...start with a medium action shorter rod...
    do not try to throw it 50 yards...get a half ounce lead weight or topwater w/o hooks...
    the reel quality is so so key...8-11 ball bearings...
    set drag andspool line tight onto reel between a towel...

    learn to cast sidearm, overhand and flip/pitch...
    quality rod-reel and not too heavy a line is where it is at....
    hand-eye co-ord will get better and better...
    try to use all the same reels and the same model
    rods...

    I have made over 125,000 casts since 1980 in many clubs and the 12 years since retirement
    so "easy for me to say>>>LOL...
