Over The Years, HOW MANY SONARS HAVE YOU BOUGHT?

Just got to thinking about since I started fishing back in mid 90's about the number of sonars I have purchased.
It gets scary when you think of all the numbers and models.
I don't think I would be far off guessing close to 40 different units.
Started with Lowrance for about 10 years then swung over to Humminbird.
Couldn't guess how many $$$'s that would cost, other than MANY!

Probably five in the last 35 years. Only because the used boat I bought in 2000 came with two and I ordered a boat in 2020 with one.

In addition to what came installed in the boats, 4 units.
Including the boat units, 50 plus.

I hate to think how many. If you include flashers, paper graphs, LCDs and CRTs it would be over 50. Seems like everythime I would upgrade the technology would be outdated the next day. Chasing the latest and greatest never ends. Learned to try and get proficient with what I had and only upgrade when my equipment was obviously falling behind.

My first was a Bird Super 30 that I kept a long time. When the LCG came out I had a couple of those. Those two models span about 20 years? I had a Zercom flasher in the 90’s. In 2004 I got my first color LCG and it had GPS. I was pooping in high cotton

I ended up with a HDS7 and upgraded to a HDS12 for a year or so. I’ve been back to the same HDS7 gen1 since 2016.

I don’t spend much on electronics. All of em are light years better than the marked string and old spark plug I started with.

Not Many, was still using a 997 and an 1198 just a couple of years ago.
If professionals who's careers depend on catching fish use FFS then that's what I'm using. Might be too simple of a philosophy but makes sense to me.

1 Thats it! All of mine have been on boats, given to me or a swap for installing electronics. I really don't use them much anyway. CJ

If the boat had good working units none. So with two new boats over several years four new units including Garmin Livescope.

Bird Wide 100 on my old Tidecraft back in the 90's

Sometime around 2012 or 13 I bought a Garmin Striker Plus 5CV and put on my duck boat. Entered over 100 waypoints of brushpiles on my local lake by hand. When we got the Triton in '17 I think, I bought a Striker Plus 9SV so we could have side imaging and it would link to all the waypoints I already had.

    a sign of the times...

im 36, have owned 3 boats, but literally grew up with sonar. So personally I have bought 10...and 12 if you include ice fishing flashers, in the past decade

although hopefully I wont be buying any soon now that im set with 3 10 inch garmins. Although an NBT would be cool, but I dont think it would fit nicely on the front of my 19 foot boat lol.
