    Help with chine walk

I recently purchased 2024 819 with a mercury 200 (manual jack plate). My previous boat didn't walk, so this is new to me. I am still in the break-in period for the motor, so I haven't had a lot of seat time in it yet. When I do my short periods at full throttle, it walks even though I don't even have it trimmed up halfway. Can anyone give me some tips on how much you usually have it trimmed at full throttle and the best way to control the walk? thanks

A little left wheel input when it first starts. If it doesn’t feel right just trim down and start over. After some seat time you will get it figured out. Mine starts walking in the mid 50’s. Thats when I need to drive it.

what is your prop to pad measurement also what batteries are in the back?

When I first got my boat my prop to pad was 4-1/2” and it seemed to want to start walking in the mid 50’s i ended up raising my manual Jack plate all the way up that put me at 3.25” prop to pad and that made a huge difference in how my boat handles now it doesn’t start to need any driver input until I’m over 60.
I want to add I have 4 group size 31 lead batteries and a dual console and it’s loaded up with tackle.

I'm still learning to drive my 721 so not an expert by any means.... I have a 12" hydrolic jp and found that I get less chine and a little more speed at wot by lowering the engine a little bit (opposite what I've always thought). I get better fuel efficiency at cruising speeds with it raised a bit

Like other posts said, check the prop to pad height and if possible get on a deep wide body of water and keep a slight left steer for a long run until you get the feel for balancing it. Balancing the load in the boat will help too. If alone fill the port live well half way.

Im much lighter. lithium and two LA for the TM. 1/4 tank of fuel. I have not moved the motor from the Stock location. I’m headed out tomorrow with a full tank of fuel and see what it does. I’m at 60 mph at 6000 rpm with 21 tempest. I think my set up is right at this point.
I have to add that I’m at 3000 ft elevation. Roughly 9 percent power loss at this elevation.

here is my 2 cents on phoenix's. If you jump on plane and trim it up higher right off the rip you will not chine walk at least in my case. I had this problem with my 919. If i slowly trimmed it out i couldn't get the trim 1/2 way up without having to come out of the throttle. It would walk bad on me in high 50's low 60's.

I had the walking problem when I first got my 618 (coming out of a Champion with none). Where my Champ liked it to be trimmed all the way up, my Phoenix takes very little trim.
It will just take you a few trips to learn that sweet spot. Also make sure you try to keep the load pretty balanced.

Thanks for all of the help. I've had it in the mid to upper 60's a few times where I felt under control, but other times it seems to get loose in the mid 50's or so. I have 3 group 31 AGM batteries right now (will probably be adding a lithium for graphs). I will have to check the prop to pad height; it's at whatever they set it to at the factory.

Engine height, how the boat is loaded (weight distribution) and time.

Think pressure. Apply constant pressure to the left, when you feel it trying to walk, release some pressure and put it right back on, don't wait for the boat to do something before putting the pressure back on. Ease it off, they put it back left, ease if off, then put it back left.

Of course you need the right engine height for the load you carry and also have the boat balanced side/side.

With a full tank of fuel today the walk was virtually gone. Ran up to 60 pretty easy before running out of lake.

When I first got my 619 that was first walking boat I had....after reading some advice and watching a video on YT, figured it out....then made adjustments to my jp and found the sweet spot and can drive with no hands....
