    "Fads" in fishing that lasted

Fads are just that, they come and go. There are some that last throughout time. The three biggest since I've been fishing that have lasted.

    Green Pumpkin
When this color hit and got hot you had better been at the tackle shop when the baits got there or you were going to miss out. Now every bait company makes it and more times than not with combos of it as well

    Senko
    Nothing else to say

    Chatterbait
I would have thought the fish would have backed off of this bait, but still just as strong as ever
You can censor my speech but not my thoughts or will
We are living in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

If they have lasted throughout time, then by your own definition they are not a fad.

I don’t see any of those as a fad

To me a fad is the onesies anglers sported when tournaments started
    Or patch pirates
Or your name on the outboard
And the latest is “Let’s Go!”

I think rb's point is they were initially thought of as a fad. Re-read his thread title.

    well then I would say

Banjo Minnow, helicopter lure or the dancing eel

none of them lasted but they are a real fad

I never saw a swimbait or chatter bait as a fad

both are viable alternatives to baits that we all used

When I first saw guys wearing gloves for fishing I thought they were a fad but we all know how that turned out.

I think it’s a fad. Outside of guys that hate using spinning rods I just don’t get the point of them.

Agree on all but Shakeyhead. That technique was being used for a long time in the North East just nobody called it shaky head. Pretty much anybody asked me I'd have said plastic worm on a ball jighead. Someone smart in marketing came up with a catchy name and well there you have it.

Yep.....been around way longer than the name. Had guys ask for longer hooks when I molded.

The jighead worm has been around a long time. A while before I ever heard of a shakey head, I took a guy fishing who had moved down here from somewhere in the Northeast. We were fishing a lake with a lot of standing timber adjacent to a deep creek channel and when he pulled a spinning rod with that little rig on it I thought he was going to be heartbroken. He waxed my ass on that little rig and pulled big fish out of that timber just letting it fall through limbs and not horsing the fish. I went and bought my first spinning rod the next day

Green pumpkin, most of the stuff that lives in the water is some shade of green, just a natural color of prey, not a fad really.

Now the patch pirates put their patches directly on their skin with ink instead of their jumpsuit. Instead of putting their name on their outboard they put it permanently on their skin. Is that a fad ? And is let’s go Brandon a fad?
