Big decision tomorrow got to be made

Buddy my poodle who is 8 years old has a knot on his chest that keeps gettingf bigger. It's not bothering him at all as far as i know but at some point, it may be a problem when he gets some age on him. I am wanting to have it taken out, my wife says no, i know other folks have been through this before, what y'all think on this??[IMG][/IMG]

Had a "knot" removed on ours when she was maybe 6. It had grown to slightly smaller than golf ball size when removed. Minor vet bill was all.

My take is if it’s getting bigger with age then why would it just stop growing. If your dog is in good health now then go ahead and get it done before he gets old. IMO sedation to an older dog is harder than a younger dog. Buy no means is 8 old but if the knot keeps growing and 4-5 years from now it’s an issue and has to be removed it will be a harder procedure/recovery. We had a knot about the size of tip of your finger removed from our morkie when she was around 8 years old for the exact same reason. She is 10 now and staring to show signs of age. Although it was just a cyst that was harmless we’re glad we had it removed before she got old.
What something like that cost to get

I don't remember cost but it wasn't bad. Less than $500 for sure. He poked it with a needle and i guess it didn't pull fluid so he said let's set up a appt to get it removed.

Well. I trust my vet. If I didn't take his advice I should go somewhere else. What does your vet advise? Are you improving your dog's life by removing it? Personally if I were in your situation I'd ask my vet if it wouldn't harm the dog, if it was O.K. to get it removed.
    He/she said O.K. I'd get it removed.

No doubt I would have it removed if it was my dog.

If it was another family member would you get it fixed. I am going through a problem with my best buddy Rufus-16 year old Chocolate lab, he is the best dog I have ever had. They become more that man's best friend, they are family. Good luck, and I will say a prayer for him.

A couple of my dogs have had them, fatty tumors. Most of the time they are just an eye sore. I didn't notice in other comments, has you had the lump biopsied?

It wouldn't hurt to have it checked out. Removal if only it is bothering her.

Get your vet to check it out and get it removed before it becomes a larger issue.

I can tell he is YOUR dog and not your wife's dog. Get it checked out for some peace of mind, if not anything else.

It may be just a simple lipoma…..fatty cyst….if so no reason to remove it until it hinders the dogs movement. Have it biopsied by your vet….that is the only way to determine what it is …..and how to move forward.
