    ZXR 20 vs. 21

I know the 20 is slightly shorter than the zxr 21. Right now I’m fishing from my old procraft. It’s 20’9 but narrow. Can anyone comment on going to a zx 20 from a slightly longer boat. Looking at both the 20 and 21, but prices of the 20 look more appealing. Just curious how everyone likes their 20. Thanks in advance.

3 years running a ZXR20, No complaints. No issues with the boat or motor. Stable in rough water when fishing. Fish Cayuga lake quite often, never felt I needed anything bigger.

Depends on the water you fish, but the 20 is not slightly shorter than the 21, its a full foot. That means you have another foot on the front deck, another foot in all the front compartments, and another foot that makes a significant difference in ride. 20’s, if you can get away with it, are faster. I went to a 21, from a 20, because of more Great Lakes fishing, but miss having the speed of the 20. The extra deck space on the 21 is definitely appreciated on the fishability side though.

I went froma ZX250 to a ZXR20. I didn't miss a beat. I prefer a 20' boat as I feel like they fit my style of fishing better. I can run the same water I did with the ZX250 just fine. The 20'is a lot more manueverable as well. More fun to drive too.

I went with a ZXR19, same 97" beam, same deck width as it's big brothers...and yes definitely fun to drive...71 mph tournament loaded with me

There’s only a 9” difference between a ZX250 and a ZXR20. Its a full foot difference in the FXR/ZXR20 vs the FXR/ZXR21. The difference is noticeable, but yes, shorter is more nimble. You can run the same water with any 18 foot boat as any 21 too (I did my share during the times when the Ranger 361’s ruled the tournament trails), but there is a difference in comfort and dryness I wouldnt trade back for.

Go with the 20 it is faster, and get the motor flashed to a 300hp.

Thanks for the replies. I definitely like both. It may depend on what kind of deal I find this fall.

I have run both and am currently in the ZXR21. I like having the extra foot but the 20' boat is a great platform.

I've had every size boat you can get, and the 19-20 footers fit my style of fishing, and will never buy another 21 footer unless I fished the Great Lakes exclusively. I much prefer a 20' over a 21, and love everything about my ZXR20.

Can you flash the 225 on the 19 to a 300? Is there a turbocharger available once the flash is maxed out?

Yes you can flash it to a 300, not sure about a turbo, anything is possible with enough time, money and effort.

Imo if you’ve been fishing from a 20’9 you will be perfectly fine saving a little money and going with the zxr20. However I have a 21ft only because of the deal I got on it.

Nizpro sells supercharger kits for those motors. Says they are out of stock but I believe they turn the motors into 450hp.

I run a 20 and went with it over the 21 due to overall price. Nothing about my 20 makes me wish I would have got the 21 instead. If I would have got the 21 the same would be true. Either way they are flat out great boats.

I love my 23 ZXR 20. I came out of a 17 ZX 225 and the front deck space is amazing. The boat does everything I could ask and is very enjoyable to fish out of.
