Not legal in WI. That would get a daily fine until moved.

In fact, I think the public has the right to remove obstructions like that.

I know for a fact the public has the right to use floating rafts and docks placed in a lake.

That wouldn’t fly at SML as AEP (power company) has to approve any docks and wouldn’t allow that.

Maybe the lot owners where limited to where they could put there docks due to water depth for use.

I had 268’ of waterfront. Brush pile lined and the anglers knew it. I watched every Saturday as they’d zig zag back & forth. Loved watching and recognized a few annually return. Not to many Allison boats so they stuck out. Ohio River back water of Craig’s Creek. 5.38 was my largest on a blue/white 1/32 oz crappie jig standing in yard.

Just seen that and I wonder if anything can be done to get them moved a part. The one on the left was pointing the wrong way for the boat slip to be usable anyway.

So you're ok with lakefront property owners blocking access to public water?

I had a friend that was in that exact situation. He was told that he couldn't build a boathouse and pier that would block access to the cove. He was told to either have the cove dredged or live with the shallow water. He had the cove dredged.

Yeah I have no idea how that ever got approved. Alabama power has to inspect and approve all docks on the Coosa river and I’m assuming it’s like that on Smith too.

Don’t blame you for being upset so grab a couple of Dude Wipes to ease the pain then start going through the legal channels to see what can be done. Thanks for publicizing that situation.

    Here is Wisconsin..

I live on a private power lake and the dock permits are very strict. For one you will not be permitted to extend into the lake for more than 30% of the cove width.
They did an aerial survey a few years ago and I got a nasty letter saying I was four feet further into the lake than my permit. By my measurement I was only 2 ft but I had to move it anyway. Fortunately it is a floating dock.
We had a few homeowners putting out no wake buoys but the Power company picked them up and sent threatening letters to all the property owners in the cove.
I am glad they are so strict on dock permitting.

See see something similar in many Central Florida lakes. Homeowners will put bouys and/or PVC pice across the entrance to canals. I've seen several with signs saying "Private Property- No Trespassing" at the entrances also. When I asked a Game Warden lately about it - he kinda kicked the can and said something along the lines well anyone can put them up but "they really don't have the authority to do that"
