I met Gary down at Table Rock after church on Sunday and fished the mid James River area until dark. We never got a bite all afternoon and evening. We couldn't believe it. So.... on Monday we decided to check out some different water and ran down to Shell Knob. The bite was a little bit better down there so we managed to catch a few but nothing to brag about. The bite was tough enough that we had a hard time figuring any kind of pattern. We caught 'em everywhere we went but it was just one or two here and there. We wound up doing what Paul and I called "scrounging" for bites by throwing everything in the box. We had to keep mixing it up in order to get bit every now and then. We threw all the spring time regulars in all the usual places but bites were few and far between. Our best baits when it was calm were the ned rig and a grub. When the wind came up I was able to catch some on one of my custom painted Wiggle Warts. We had to work at it but still had a ball.
