    Vault Cap Leaking

Spend some time in the search forum. Leaking a bit Vault Hybrid Lubricant between hub and the piston any idea what would cause this?

    Thanks

Check the hub after you go on a trip to see if its getting hot, If its getting hot you may have bigger problems.

There's a O-ring between the outer cap and hub, The O-ring may be bad.

Temperatures are warm to touch, wonder if the O-rings are starting to fail, I know there's two o-rings between piston and inside the cap.
Did not think of the O-ring between hub and the cap, will look at that....

    Thanks for the reply...

Yes, worn o rings inside the piston. Pistons are exposed to road grime that gets between the piston i-rings & the metal housing. O rings get damaged as the piston moves and eventually they leak.

Personally, I use the vinyl bearing bras over my ufp bearing covers ….. leaving sufficient space for the piston to move.

I like your idea, which bearing cover are you using?

I use fulton bearing cover protectors 1.98”…..$9 on amazon. They are incredibly snug….I push in on the end while installing & lift up a side to let the air escape….end result leaves room for the piston to freely move. Been using them for years & my ufp gold series caps look & perform flawlessly.

Same trick will work w/ vault caps…..they are identical to gold series oil bath caps….vault just has an opaque piston.

I just switch ALL 4 of my VAULT hub covers over to BEARING BUDDIES... external zerk fitting for adding grease and the small black colored covers went on pretty snug.
I got tired of loosing the hub covers AND a couple Ranger trail chrome caps

Only issue in 10 years with a Vault cap was when it popped off due to stuck caliper and getting hot.

I've had this happen to me, if the wear sleeve is not positioned properly, the grease hole will cut the lip seal.

I quit using the sleeves with holes. One of me axles doesn’t have a hole for zerk anyway.
