    Anyone with a late 2010's 4Runner?

Looking at upgrading my wife's vehicle. We're interested in a 2017 or newer Toyota 4runner. We have one child that is still in a car seat and maybe going to have another child at some point. Anyone have one and pros and cons of it? What kind of fuel mileage are you getting? She currently has a 2012 Honda Pilot but it's starting to rust and have consistent fixes.

A guy I used to fish with got his wife one and the dealer ended up buying it back due to a side curtain air bag defect. Dealer told him there was only one guy who fixed that defect and he was months out getting to his vehicle. Might want to check on that if you're looking at the 2016 thru 2019 year range.

Can't remember the exact year but his was a 2016, 2017 or 2018 I think.

We’ve had three Runners, a 2004 V8 FT 4WD, a 2010 V6 FT 4WD, and currently my wife has a 2016 V8 GX460 FT 4WD, and I’m driving a 2023 V6 FT 4WD Runner. They are great trucks that’ll average right at 17 overall. The GX is by far the smoothest but calls for premium gas at over 4.00 a gallon at 17MPG. Unless she just likes utility or you’re going to pull etc… most women prefer the RX or Highlander because the Runner rides stiffer than the completion with their unibody frames vs the Runner platforms body on frame.

Not one warranty claim between the four vehicles.

Pretty much echo what he said.

Between the 4runners and the GX's, they are pretty much the best built suv's in the world. The GX is known as the million mile suv, a maintained 4runner will go 300k/mi's. Im driving a 2017 4runner and the wife has a 2021 GX460. The only thing that Im aware of with the 4runners is rusting frames. If you buy, I'd have the underside done and you'll be handing down to the possible 2nd child when they get their licence.....they are that good.
Im not sure what used runners are going for in your area but in most of the country they are going for big money and its safe to say they will be worth good money in the future. The new runners are coming on 2025 and they are turbo 4's which is not well received by the 4 runner faithful.

Just traded out 2020 Limited in. It had 67K miles. We bought it new. It was a great vehicle. Wife loved it but we downsized to another Camry because we are on the road alot more now. The 4 runner is as reliable as anything on the road today.

If your a person that buys and keeps then your not going to do better. It will tow any bass boat just fine.

Had 3 still have the 08 and bought a new TRD Sport in June and thinking about buying another new one before mother Toyota screws it up with the redo update thats said to include a 4 cylinder turbo then I'll be out.

On the 08 I installed a trans cooler mainly because I tow to the big O. When I replaced the brakes I went with Powerstop towing pads and rotors @ 100,000 miles but the factory stuff stopped it fine but the PStop pads do work better when they get warm.

Change the oil every 5,000 m1 10w30 flush the coolant every other year and 1 set of spark plugs at 90,000. Tires 60 to 70,000 is what you can expect if you take care of it. 300,000 easy is what I understand.

2020, same engine and transmission as your year range, 20 mpg highway and about 13 mpg if only in town. They're a very fun and very capable offroad vehicle so it's not going to ride like a luxury car but you can't help to just driving one. The only complaint that I have is the nose dive during braking.

Scotty Kilmer is really high on them. Check out what he says about them on YouTube. We have the RX. Second one, all we drive. Last forever.

I bought a new 2016 Toyota 4 Runner Limited in December, 2016 and it has been flawless. It has around 55,000 miles on it now. I don't think you can go wrong going with one. Also has the original Yokohama tires on it with plenty of tread left on them.

A 4Runner is my dream suv. I’d love one but man are they pricey. Even a 6yo 4Runner cost more than a 3yo Jeep GC or Explorer with 50k less miles. Just hard to justify spending 30k on a 6yo vehicle nearing 80k miles

Have '18 TRD Off Road...lots of rural driving...currently at 18.1...no issues...tows my Stratos well...slight bias as I worked for them for 30 yrs in May...have driven about every model for several yrs...towed my boat to Dallas from Chi with my Highlander...towed great except in extremely hilly country...wish Runner rode like that but it is what it is...but the tow package was crap...had to mickey mouse connections...about to surpass 160K on Runner and just keeps hummin' along

I've got a 2018 TRD. I've never pulled anything but a small utility trailer with it. The only bad thing I can say about a 4runner is that they all come geared too high from the factory. The little 4.0 v6 will run forever but a power beast it is not. 4.10 gears would be a wonderful option.

Other than that, they are great vehicles, easy to work on compared to most vehicles today, and lots of aftermarket parts available.

For the sake of the kids and room that kids demand and comfort do yourselves a favor and get the Highlander right off the bat because it will only cost you more to upgrade when the next rug rat arrives.

I'm confused by this statement. Hook the trailer up and connect the harness 5 to 7 pin on both of them 08 and 23. Whats mickey about it?
