New to me 2017 18TRX with 200 optimax

Hey guys. I just purchased my first glass boat (had a 2016 RT188 for 8 years prior) I have to say I really love this Triton. It rides really well. The previous owner must have not set this boat up from factory at all. Right after I bought it I could barely get it to 55-56 mph and could not get it to lift at all. I brought the jack plate up a good bit, but the best i've seen was 62 mph @ 5600 rpms light boat. The prop is a 24 pitch fury three blade that isn't in the best shape. I did try a 25 pitch tempest but had about the same results. I am thinking that a 24 is too much for this boat, but I am not sure which direction to turn. I did check to make sure the throttle cable was getting full travel with the hotfoot and it appears that it is. Does anyone here have the same motor/ boat combo that could offer me any insight to which prop they are using, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I did use the search feature and did not really find much on this.

did you measure prop to pad? a 24 fury 3 should be close if engine is running properly maybe prop too rough of shape?

While i never measured, I think i have the p2p dialed in pretty close. I did try to plug all of the vents in the prop the hole shot was still great but I slowed down from around 60-61 to 57 mph. This is why I am thinking that the prop is too big. I have since pulled the plugs back out, but I haven't been able to run it since then. The oil tank on the motor stripped the cap on top and it pumped oil out of it. It pretty much emptied the tank in the boat before i noticed it after a long run so I am waiting on a new tank to come in.

PVS plugs have no effect after the boat is on plane so they’re not affecting your top in speed or anything like that

^^ This. The plugs get her on plain. Remember a furry likes to be a little deeper than a Tempest. Iv found a Tempest + likes to be ran pretty high. In fact I have my z lock JP all the way up and my Tempest + likes it. To me the Tempest carries a heavy load better.

I thought so too, but why would I slow down five MPH open vents vs. plugged. It makes no sense to me.

Your speeds seem slower than one would expect. I really dont know what they should run. I had a 189 TRX w a 150 4 stroke (not the PRO XS) with two PPs and it ran 57 GPS if my memory serves me correctly

For sure! this boat should run high 60's at least. I have noticed little to no lift I am thinking it may be as easy as biting the bullet and buying a new prop.

Man, Id scoot that JP all the way up and Try a tempest +. As far as pitch goes, I really Dont know, maybe a 22 or a 23??

    I have a 19 with a 225 2 stroke Pro xs and i run both a 24 and 25 pitch tempest +.

I tried a furry and it didnt do well. It seems a Tempest carried my load better (2 poles I had two 10s at the time I was testing, 4 AGM batteries and me im 215lbs)

Also, make sure you are actually firing on all 6 cylinders and do not have a bad Coil. Again, that happened to me twice.

Furys suck on Triton boats, a 24p Tempest is what you need.

Yeah, like i said I tried a 25 tempest and it was too much. The next step is trying a 24. I have the chance to buy a used 23p but I don't know if it will be enough prop.

I can go up about another 1/2" on the jack plate maybe. I would have to get a proper p2p measurement.

The water pressure has been good where it is now. I don't think i will lose any going all the way up and trying a tempest. I called my local prop shop to see if they had one. People drop off props and never return to pick them up so they eventually sell them. I am going to try to find one to try before I drop 700 plus dollars on a new one and it not be correct.

If you outboard was a 4 stroke I would say 23 Tempest Plus or Bravo FS 24 P.

With an Opti Max MAY be able to turn a 24 Tempest Plus.
