Carolina Rig Keeper vs Traditional (3 knots)

Hey all you Carolina rig enthusiasts, do you use the traditional swivel and three knot system or how many of you use a Carolina rig keeper one knot system?

I think I know the answer but I would like to hear from the pros.

    Thanks.

I am a die hard Carolina rigger. Have been for over 25+ years.

    3 knots for me.

I have the Carolina keeper a try. Didn’t work for me.

Possibly the reason, I always use a one ounce weight.

Smaller weights may work with it.

3Polamar knots. If you do it in the right order, you don't have to put the rod through the loop !! !

I tried the Carolina keeper. It doesn’t work for heavy weights and I normally use 3/4 or 1 oz

Always take leaders that we have pre tied.

Only one knot while on the water.

The Keeper works for smaller weights, use it often in shallow water (6’ or less), and yes, a C-Rig works in areas other than 25’ feet. Many ti es I don’t put a bead on it, makes it a little quieter.

Pre tie a handful with different size hooks.

Place them one per sandwich zip lock.

Then put all the small bags in a label one gallon zip lock.

    Works great

I thought I was an oddball throwing ounce or 3/4-ounce weights. But it is about all I throw. I also use three knot and have never heard of the keeper.

works fine with heavy weights --- just use 2 instead of one. I use 3/4 most of the time

Yes, I pre-make my leaders with a hook and swivel and store them in used prescription bottles. Then I only need to slip on a weight and bead, and tie on the other end of the swivel. Fastest and easiest way I have found to rig a carolina rig while on the water.

I never backlash, but each time I go fishing I practice fixing them, just in case I ever do really backlash.

I prefer using the three knot method. I also prefer using the lightest weight possible, usually 1/2 ounce.

3 knots for me. I throw a rig an awful lot. I also pre tie leaders and put them in zip lock bags. Saves a lot of time. I actually had the keeper damage my line once.

Another thing to rennet the bead is an important part of a Carolina rig. Makes noise. You don’t get that with a keeper

    Yes in keeper damaging line.
Used them on day, and never again.

This always. Also if one keeper doesn't hold properly I will use two. Never had one damage my line either unless you try and move the keeper without squeezing it correctly or wetting you line maybe. Also you can get the sound by using a carolina ticker with a bead sandwiched between it and the weight.
