Will this Nitro be more stable than my tin?

Knocking around the idea of going to glass boat, the Nitro Z17. Never had a glass boat. Current boat is a Lund 1775 Renegade aluminum.

I hope to accomplish two things. One is certain as the beam on the Nitro is 90", my Lund 95". It's a tight fit into the garage width wise with the Lund. Five inches less would help some, maybe a lot.

I am hoping the Nitro will be more wind resistant. It only weights about 235lbs more than the Lund. Lund is 17'10" long, Nitro 17' 4". Nitro bottom width 72", Lund 68".

The Lund sits real well in the water. Very level.

So would I get enough added stability with the Nitro to notice?

And no I don't want to go to a Z18. Too long, beam too wide and I fish small water solo. Could care less about storage or ride performance. Just trolling motor down performance.

I fish a 500 acre lake 85% of the time, a small section of a large lake 15%. So that is why I'm not concerned with ride performance.

That Nitro will be perfect for the waters you fish.

I am of the opinion that any fiberglass boat of equal proportions will be more stable than an aluminum boat of similar size and design. I won't get in an aluminum boat unless mine sinks while I'm down river.

I would keep the Lund, way more deck space then the Nitro.

I totally understand why you want that smaller Nitro and it's a nice looking rig. I heavily considered one but decided I wanted something bigger than the Tracker I had at the time. That said, I wouldn't count on it being more stable than the Lund and the front deck having no lip on it looks like rods going into the drink waiting to happen. The ONLY reason I would trade that Lund for the little Nitro is to make getting into the garage easier. Otherwise, it's your money so do what you want. I do think you'll miss the Lund once the new wears off of that little Nitro.

Make sure you measure the trailer width.

Yes, specs show package width at 7'-11.5". So basically 96"

Thanks for the reminder. My Lund trailer width is 8', as mentioned above the Nitro at 7 11.5". So that kinda kills the deal. Way too much trouble and money to switch out for 1/2".

Best to be satisfied with what I got, a really good aluminum rig that works for me. I get the greener pasture syndrome from time to time.

Don't we all, lol. I usually reward myself for realizing that it was a bad idea by buying a new rod or reel. Need to incentivize that self-examination behavior!!!

Agree, there's no way the Nitro will have more deck space

I had a 17’ lund with a very similar hull to that renegade, it was WAY more stable than a 17’ glass bass boat will be. The waterline width on your tin boat is very wide. May not ride better, may not fish better, but its a much bigger boat. A 17’ vee hull like that feels to me about like a 19’ bass boat space-wise. Thats subjective for sure, but Id be shocked if you didnt really notice the difference.

I’ve owned two similar boats to what you described.

Ranger 170vs glass with 115 optimax

Ranger RT188 also with 115 optimax.

The tin boat had more usable front deck room. With TM down was a great fishing platform.

The glass boat wins with better livewell, ride quality, beefy trailer, dry storage compartments.

They both ran about the same top end speed of 46-48 mph.
