Better mount option for talon on jackplate (side or sandwich bracket)

I put a manual 10" slidemaster jackplate on boat and the previous talon bracket mount was the sandwich bracket mount that goes between transom and motor. After the install I realized that sandwich bracket does not mount to side jackplate. So we install it that bracket back in between the motor and the jackplate. I ordered the side bracket to mount it to the side the jackplate but now that it came in I'm wondering if one setup is better than the other. Sideplate mount will put the talon closer to the boat, but seems like it would cause some strain on one side of the jackpate when attempted to adjust the height. On the other hand the sandwich mount behind the jackplate puts the talon pretty far back and also adds another 3/4" of setback to the motor.
