    Swapping out Point-1

I have had the Point-1 made for Evinrude on my NMEA since I rigged my G2 in 2016. I am thinking about replacing it with a Garmin 24XD GPS antenna.

Will this require using EV diag or will the new GPS source be automatically recognized by the system. Is this a simple hardware swap that I can do without a trip to a dealer.

As long as the Garmin broadcasts the N2K GPS message and the connector is the same type, then it is simple hardware swap. No new programming needed.

Sorry but I have another question.

Currently I have a Garmin 24XD at the bow and a Point-1 on the stern. I am planning on swapping out the Point-1 for a second 24XD. All of these GPS antennae are on the same public NMEA 2000.

My Garmin MFDs allow me to individually pick which GPS source I want to use for each unit.

Is there a way to pick a specific GPS source for my Evinrude Icon pro and Icon 3.5 gauges. I'm guessing that as of now they default to the Point-1.

I looked in the icon pro and the icon 3.5 user manuals and didn't find how to select GPS source. Is there a menu item in either the icon pro tach or in the 3.5 that allows selecting a specific source.

—- no there is not but it is not really necessary.

it is not necessary nor any benefit to do so. You have redundant inputs.

what you are revealing is the power of N2K networking.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are saying.

It sounds like there should be no problem getting rid of the Point-1 and that the Evinrude system will get it's GPS data from one of the Garmin 24XD antennae without any required input by the user.

    I should be good, right?

The gauges do not have capability to select different GPS moduals. As long as the Garmin gps broadcasts the N2K message the gauges will show gps speed.

Did the placement today and it seems to be ok. Easy-peasy.

    Thanks again your help.
