    2000 225 OX66 Questions

I bought a boat with a 225 OX66. It has sat for 2 years. It "appears" to be a very clean motor and in great shape.

I plan to compression test first before starting the maintenence process.

I have pumped out the old fuel and cleaned tanks.

Any specific advice when performing the compression test?

My understanding of how I should do it-tell me where I am wrong

    -remove all plugs and wires
    -remove safety fob
-insert compression gauge -starting at the top
-crank a few times until gauge maxes out
    -proceed down the block

What all would you guys recommend replacing out the gate?

Throttle should be wired open as well.

Wired open or wide open? If wired open, what does that mean exactly? Thank you for helping

Both, either hold the throttle wide open while you are doing it or wire it so it stays open without having to hold it.

Compression is around 110 on these motors.

Mostly standard wear parts for 2 strokes..

    New spark plugs
    New lift pumps
    New fuel filters
    New lower unit fluid
    Top off tilt trim fluid
    New fuel filters
    New impeller
    Grease all your zerks
    Clean 02 sensor or replace
    Probably thermostats

Edit: and don't forget to drain the vst tank, might be worth opening it and replacing the high pressure pump filter as well.

Most important maintenance parts on these motors are the lift pumps and 02 sensor. They need to be serviced regularly.

    That's about it.

Change the O2 sensor to a less expensive brand, plenty of past post about which type and how to do it. I think it is a NKT 21006. It will save you a lot of money. I now change mine yearly.
