    garmin 1222 vs 8612

So I have a 1222 currently on my boat. But I’ve heard the 8612 is a much better picture. Can anyone that has real world experience tell me if it’s worth switching. Thanks Brian

Best thing to do is go to an outdoor show or large retailer who has them both on display. The difference in the HD units is significant to my eyes but I also spend a lot of time looking at electronics. I think most would objectively agree the image is better but the questioin of "worth the price" of course is a very personal one.

Only thing better than a 8612 is a 8616. The best resolution on a Garmin unit is the 8610, check out the specs. If I was doing a livescope setup all over again it would have an 8610 or 8612 unit.

The difference your talkng about is with live scope displayed? Or mapping or something else?

Years ago when the 32 came out I was told by RMP that livescope doesn't produce a good enough picture to benefit from the 8 series. So I bought 12 series units.

Thanks everyone for the reply’s. I just went to our local bass pro and they had a 8612 on display and the resolution is better than my 1222.

Mahomee sorry I should have mentioned it was the livescope picture I was asking about.

Basspro only had the display model so I will have to order it online. Looks to me they are all the same price at each vender for a unit with no sonar.

I get it would have better clarity with a map picture etc. But i dont think livescope is putting out that great of a picture for it to matter.

On demo mode you can go to LS screen and it definitely looks better with higher resolution.

I have a 1222 a 1243 and 8612 the best pic is the 1222 or 1243 there’s no way the 8612 is worth the price they ask and the screen is lot smaller than the other 2.

Doing research on these units for the new boat. The 8412 has the best resolution if you are not worried about mapping. A tad bit cheaper than the 8612.

    Resolution Factors;

    GPSMAP - 1222 / 1280 x 800
    GPSMAP - 1243 / 1280 x 800
    GPSMAP - 8412 / 1920 x 1200
    GPSMAP - 8612 / 1920 x 1080

Why chose the 1222 over 126sv when on sale $1499 BPS? Just curious as cheaper then 1222

I've had the 1222 and 8612. I couldn't tell any real world difference in Livescope between the two. I prefer the 1222 for the knobs instead of touch screen. Much quicker/easier to make adjustments.

The 8612 is a higher resolution, but I haven't seen any published data that states whether the Garmin Livescope utilitizes that higher resolution or whether it simply stretches the image. Higher resolution is meaningless if the Livescope isn't utilizing it.

The 126 is on sale 1500 it’s a steal and you get a real 12 inch screen not 10 inch display on the graphics.Uou can’t go by the resolution numbers those are not what we are looking at in real time
