It all over western Oklahoma as well. The sky around OKC area is a dark ashy grey and smells of smoke.

My parents are in Wheeler Texas. The next city south of Canadian. They evacuated about an hour ago. Hope they get the fire under control. My brother in law works for Hemphill County where the big fire is and he is driving a blade right now to help firefighters.

We sent a group up to Canadien several years back for wildland fires.

A co-worker and myself witnessed the start of it. We were traveling through the TX panhandle on the way to Denver for work. We saw smoke up ahead of us and could tell a fire was growing and moving east fast. Got just north of Stinnett on 136 when brush pumpers, local leo, and TX troopers blazed by and shut the highway down just in front of us. Watched a 1/2 mile wide wall of fire jump the highway and proceed east and then go over the top of the old railroad bed. Spread out to a mile wide in and a massive plume of smoke heading east at 50 mph. Amazing sight. The fire started in a draw and we were on the high side and got to see some heroic actions by the firefighters that saved a ranch house, out buildings, from the flames. They let folks with stock trailers run in with escort to get livestock out. Watched road graders drive right into the flames on the south side of the fire to tear up the ground and fuel and create a break. All the while the main body of the fire was screaming off to our east. Was there an hour before a TX trooper led us and the other 50 or so vehicles down through the burn zone. The next day (today) we drove through blizzard conditions between Colorado Springs and Denver on I25. Heck of a trip. Prayers for those out in front of that fire.

I drove by three of them in east central Oklahoma coming home from Lake Okemah yesterday. No where near the size of the panhandle and western Oklahoma fires are.

Pray that first responders stay safe. We lost a firefighter here to a fast moving grass fire a couple of years ago

We woke up in Nashville yesterday morning to ash on our vehicles from these fires. Didn't know anything about them until the local weather service advised what the sludge was.
