Not everybody is confined to making $50k at the factory where dad worked.

10 year loans don't think so more like 20 years 240 months with 10% down. These loans will always be upside down.

The same way people afford $60k trucks and $200k boats. Loans.
I know a guy with a 20 year note.
More people are doing better than some people think. A boat loan is fairly tough to get in terms of qualifying for it. They don't just had them out to people with poor to even average credit ratings.
Common sense says if you have a good credit rating then you have some sense on how to manage your finances.
Reality is some people think because they can't do something then everyone else can't either. Lots of people are doing OK these days.
We do all know Bigfishsteves pays cash, hes got it like that. Good for you man, hats off
Some bite the bullet and just go for it no matter the cost. I know a few. Some can pay cash if they want. I know a few of them also. Some save until they can pay for a good part of it and finance the rest. Know a couple of these people too. Some people try to make it a business. Guiding and so on. Such as a friend of mine. Think he trades every couple years. Then there are people like me that finally have the means to buy one but have learned they are too dang old to justify spending that kind of money and are happy that they just have a boat that works.
I'm a business owner and have been blessed with good business sense and done well over the years. One thing I won't do is finance toys. House was financed at one time, a few vehicles were financed, but any boat was a cash deal. Sell what I had, figure out what I can afford and find one within that budget.
It's nuts! Could you imagine putting the first gouge in a $100k boat!
Funny cause not so long ago those blue collar factory workers were the million bass club members nationwide and the ones that made up the consumer base for the entire fishing industry. Now bass boats and all things associated with bass fishing have become yet another status symbol for most people.
No, not me. I run a 1991 that I bought new. But I did start young with plans to retire before I'm too old to do anything. We got 20 year old kids around here getting a 2 year instrumentation/control equipment degree from junior college and starting out at $80K. There are jobs. There are opportunities. Factories can't get enough. School in Chester Va has a 1 year machinist certificate program with a waiting list of companies wanting them Same kind of pay. But everybody's kid wants a business degree and a desk job. That's fine, just be happy when you start at the same pay as the kid working at Chick-Fil-a.

I do not know, there is a big difference between being able to scrape together a monthly payment, verses actually affording it.
Getting on as many pro-staffs as possible is how you do it.
When you get 10-15% off of everything, the savings really add up.
It's easy. Imagine paying 640 a month on your 19 year old boat with one year to pay.
