OK To Power Stereo Off TM Battery?

I just added a second Helix 10 and Mega 360 to the bow. I re-wired it all with brand new 10 ga. marine wire. This got me looking at the wiring for the JBL stereo amp. I'm going to re-wire it also and was thinking to maybe run it of one of the trolling motor batteries and take that much of a draw off the X2 AGM. I don't listen to music often but I do enjoy it when things are slow.

    I don't see a problem doing this...am I wrong?

I don't see a problem with it, I can't think of any reason why not too.

Best powered off cranker. 24V Trolling motor is only as good as the weakest battery. Pulling off one troller will shorten run time.

And that's sort of what I had on my mind.

The price of batteries these days, I sure wouldn't want to toast one.

I'm no expert, but If i drained a battery I would not want it to be the cranking battery. I have radio on the entire day.

Why not power it off one of the little lithiums like everyone is doing for their electronics?

I've had it on my mind all day today but couldn't quite remember how to do. I looked it up on the MK website. I can wire the 12 v to the amp from both batteries in parallel. But then there's the complication of having the troller in series and the amp in parallel. Not sure about that. I'm just going to take the experts advice and stay with the cranking batt.

The only way to wire a 12v device to a set of Trolling Motor Batteries in series is to use one of the Bandit regulators or simlar, that will provide 12v power. Not worth the trouble, you are on the right track wiring to the 12v cranking battery. No need to re-invent the wheel on this one.

    But if you must...

If you have a radio on all day and it drains your cranker you have bigger issues . Nothing but trolling on trolling PERIOD!

Most are fused at 10 amps. So….less than 10 amps.

I have a Sonic hub 2 wired into my boat that I control with my graphs. I can play it all day on my cranking battery and it doesn’t concern me. I have a REALLY big lithium cranking battery though….so your mileage may vary.

This thread kept on going so I dug a little deeper and found the installation manual. For my model it specs "Maximum Current Draw" is 22 amp and a 25 amp fuse is required. More than I would have guessed.

Just get a Bluetooth speaker and run it from your phone. Just charge it at home before going fishing.

Hey Bob, long time no hear from.

I've had this JBL setup for. probably 10 years. I'm just on a kick for getting my old crappy wiring jobs cleaned up a little. I love my sounds.

To put a radio with an amp on crankers with livewells, 2 helix graphs, plus livescope seems like a lot for a long day on the water. Not trying to be argumentative, just looking for information from those like you that actually know. I am in the process of redesigning the battery setups and layout. I would even consider adding a dedicated battery for the radio if need be.
