Getting on plane in shallow water

With a typical manual jack plate and 200hp on an 18’ boat what is the shallowest depth you can get on plane in.

with a jackplate, it is around 2.5 to 3ft. The jackplate does not help a huge amount. The big setback plates or jackplates on the back really draw the backend down. I was fishing okeechobee one year in very shallow water and had my father lay down on the front deck. That helped me get up in skinny water.

A person on the bow helps a lot. Also put the boat into a turn once you start to get on plan

The things already mentioned. Also different boat brands launch differently and how a boat is loaded, heavy, light and where the weight is.

I don't mind plowing a little water to get to safe depth. 5' or 6' ?

Left turn at the hit usually can get you up in very shallow water.

Generally: 1. Soft bottom with room to maneuver - 12 inches because you can dredge a hole with the turns already mentioned. 2. Hard bottom - call for the airboat/tow. Check the impellor when you get it home.

If the bottom is soft 12”. If hard have to idle to at least 3 ft. In a ranger.

also I always had hydraulic Jack plate which is a must down here in the marsh, if you Jack the plate all way up you can pop up quickly then lower plate down and trim up at same time and it will let you get out of some skinny water

3-3.5’ is preferred…..I have little interest in dredging the bottom looking for thermostat debris.
