    Curado K 300 freespool

I bought a 300 size Curado last year for my a-rig rod. Cleaning the reel this winter I noticed it had horrible freespool. I replaced the spool bearings with good ceramics and the freespool did not improve much.

Any thoughts on other things to try? The freespool time is less than half what I get in my curado 200’s - weather spun by hand or by turning the handle and pressing the cast release. Two brakes on on all my reels. Tension dial set as loose as possible.

One drop of oil on the new bearings.

Also look at the drum surfaces that the centrifugal brakes rub against. If they are dirty, they will slow the spool down.

Common on many of the Shimano’s. I would often take a q tip with alcohol and clean those surfaces. Casting would squeal and slow down when dirty.

There are four bearings that need inspected. Your issue most likely is the spool shaft bearing and or the pinion bearing depending on which ones you changed, I assume one under tension cap and one in removable sideplate? Also, are you comparing “loaded with line” or empty? Dan

I changed all bearings. I only recall 3 associated with the spool. One on each end and one that required the removal of the pin on the spool arm. The spool is loaded with line.

It definitely sounds like a bearing issue and or overlubricant…do you know we’re the new bearings “dry bearings” or did they come lubricated. I suspect they may be “greased” bearings? I would pull the bearing shields and flush them out, blow dry and then one drop….the 4th bearing is the pinion bearing which is more relevant to retrieve or free spin. Dan
