    Mexican Lakes

I have always had it on my bucket list to go to a lake like Lake Guerrero but feel it would be too risky now?
I won’t post the entire article but I was reading about different areas in Mexico and none seem safe.

Only six states in Mexico have the warning “do not travel” from the U.S. State Department, and one of those is Guerrero, where Acapulco is located.

Anyone still going into Mexico to fish?

I just got back from El Salto. The bottom line is that it is safe to go fishing. I wouldn't go into town and walk down a dark alley at night. But if you stick to fishing, you will be fine.

Ron Speed Adventures is who I recommend. I don't think he has Guerrero trips so I can't speak for that area and safety.

It has been several years since we went for the last time. I know I wrote about it on BFHP back some years ago. Not sure if I wrote here about it here but probably not. I will just be brief and say on the drive back to the border from Guerrero we were stopped by the police. About 3 pickup truck loads of them. Several with AR-15's type guns. We were made to unload and unpack everything we had on side of the road. Our driver finally got us released after each of us ( there were 8 of us if I remember correctly) came up with a twenty dollar bill and all the snacks and soft drinks we had. It was no fun having a AR-15 pointed at you. I ain't going back!

    My thoughts:

I have been to El Salto.
    First time to Mexico.

We were hassled at airport during customs check.

They detained 2 of my friends for having 2 cartons of cigarettes.

They started at $600 shake down. They dropped it down to $200.

    My buddies refused to pay.

After 2 hours of detaining them, they let them go on their way.

My fishing partner and I found a bar and drank till they were released.

    Little scary.

Once the lodge picked is up and got to El Salto, felt safe.

The lodge’s probably pay some “insurance” money to the cartels. You don’t here of problems once you are there.

I went to Baccarac in 98. Young kids with guns guarding around the whole area.

I've fished several lakes in Mexico, Guerrero was my least favorite.

LOL! I'm safer in Mexico than here in Arizona. Go fishing and don't worry about it.

And there is no fishing here anything like that in Mexico.

Great fishing. Great food. Great lodging and better service than you will find anywhere in the states.

Made two trips to Mexico Mule deer hunting and had no issue at all. One time we crossed with guns (yes we did it the legal way)in a truck next time we flew in, never even got a funny look. I plan on going fishing down there as well and won’t hesitate, have friends that live in Acuna that are pure gringo’s and they have no issues at all.

I think of the lakes has a landing strip.

If I could fly from Texas to the lake on a private plane….

    I would do that.
