    Pretty pathetic.

Am I a dummy or would two steel ball bearings around that size weigh nowhere near a quarter pound?

Sure they would. Look how small a 1/4 oz tungsten sinker is.

Doesn't look they could weigh that much, but put a couple of steel balls in the fish and if found out, the record will not count.

It is the previous record holder's fault for not putting steel balls in the stomach of his fish.

What law is broken by doing this? When guys get prosecuted for cheating in a tourney isn't it because there's money to be won? In this case, it's more about bragging rights of having the state record. Is there a cash prize for catching a state record?

This statement is so stupid it does not deserve a response.

The state said they could've prosecuted him under some law, something to do with false statements or something like that. They decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

    I completely agree.
How stupid can you be stuffing lead weights down a fish and trying to certify it for a state record.
    Use tungsten.

Not that I've caught a state record
But I'm sure at some point there's a statement or form

Someone pee in your cornflakes? It's not just a statement, it was three questions and one statement. So far, the only answer provided is that maybe it's perjury if he had to sign a form attesting to it being legit

From what I understand, it is making a false statement on a state form. Think of people lying on their unemployment forms as an example. Not worth the prosecution and they probably think the person will get worse, in just the court of public opinion, anyway.

Oh, I didn't know there's a blanket law for lying on state forms. I thought maybe the state had to prove that you sought financial gain which would qualify as fraud
