    Lenten season

Wishing everyone a fruitful Lenten Season of prayer and reflection.

"Lent is about Metanoia, Conversion. Lent is about turning back to God through almsgiving, fasting and prayer. Lent is about evangelization through being ambassadors for Christ.
Finally, Lent is about emerging at Easter with a holy, steadfast and new spirit. "

Lenten season differs between denominations, though in all of them Lent is described as lasting for a total duration of 40 days, which coincidently is the same days Christ spent in the wilderness, as well as Moses and Elijah, went without food in their respective fasts. Depending on the Christian denominations and custom, Lent ends on the evening of Maundy Thursday, or at sundown on Holy Saturday, though in either case, Lenten fasting observances are maintained until the evening of Holy Saturday.
Though Lent is intended as a period of affliction and remorse that ends with a great celebration of the Risen Christ, the purpose of Lent is preparing the believer for the Resurrection through prayer and daily scriptural reading, repentance of sins, charitable giving , simple living, and self-denial.
May the Spirit of grace and peace in Christ be with y'all.

Sacred Heart of Mary, pray for us now, and at the hour of our death. AMEN
O blood and water which gush forth from the heart of Jesus, have mercy on us
For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and the whole world

    Thank you drifter...

Some more Lenten thoughts for those of us who observe Lent.
"But if the wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed, if he keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live. He shall not die!" (Cf Ezekiel 18: 21 - 28).

On Day 10 of 40 of Lent 2024, the Scripture for today calls for Conversion and reminds us of God's bottomless mercy.
At the beginning of Lent, we saw that Lent provides a unique opportunity for continuous Conversion because of the immense outpouring of grace and mercy that God promises in this Season. This grace and promises come through the selection of Scriptures the Holy Spirit has prepared for the Season of Lent.

In verse 22 of the same chapter 18 of Ezekiel, God says that he who accepts the grace of Conversion "shall live because of the virtue he has practiced."

Some of these virtues are called Corporal Works of Mercy:
    1. Feed the hungry
    2. Give drink to the thirsty
    3. Clothe the naked
    4. Shelter the homeless
    5. Visit the sick
    6. Visit the imprisoned
    7. Bury the dead

"But if the wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed, if he keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live. He shall not die!"

Once again, God calls us to repentance of our sins and transgressions and to make a true commitment in changing our lives by following His teachings and Commandments. Many of times I have tried to explain this passage by using Ezekiel 33: 12-20, where God makes it clear what repentance can do in changing our entire course of life and eternal life.

Sometimes for some people it takes an act of God to fully "wake up" an individual.
