    Champion 202 set up

I have a 97 champion 202 with a 2014 optimax 250 pro xs. I just recently switched to the 250 from a 225. On the 225 it ran best with a 25p trophy. I’m trying to figure out what prop I should be running on the 250. The 25 trophy runs 70.2 mph at 5850 rpm with 2 people full tournament load. I purchased a 26 tempest plus to try and I could only get 67.9 mph at 5810 rpm by myself with a tournament load. Shouldn’t the 26 tempest be a lot faster around the same rpm? The prop shaft is about 2.75-3.00 inches below pad. What’s wrong with the set up?

You are getting a lot more slip. Could be to high or too much trim or just a bad 26. I have heard some say the 26 tempest can be a crap shoot.

I run a 26 tempest on my boat but it's not a champion so can't really compare. I know I tried a trophy on my boat and it ran very flat and it didn't like it and the tempest was much better pulling up the bow.

    Try a 25P Tempest plus.

Thank you guys. I’ll try those changes. I’ve been talking to people about working the 26 tempest to make it right. I’ll also try a 25 tempest and see how that runs

What elevation are y'all at? I’d check the motor and make sure it’s getting WOT , also make sure fuel lines are good. I would think it should turn that 25 trophy harder than that. 26 tempest plus is not very good stock. You may be high on the motor height also. I’d lower it 1/4 inch or so and see if it helps.

I run a 26 tempest on a 2001 TR21, bought it new with a 250 XB, the fastest gps was 80.9. Blew that motor and got a 250 Pro XS and about 74 is all i can get. The prop has never been worked, it probably needs it. Good prop on a triton.... I did try a 25 Fury and it didn't lift the boat like the tempest plus.

Not to push you away from the prop area, but I'd ask in the Champion area of the forum. Pat amongst others over there know the Champions like no other and will get you dialed in!
