Usually I invite friends or my brother in law to come over or I get invited by one of them. I told them no thanks this year.
I have been going to the nursing home on a regular bases to check on my other older brother in law . In the course of doing so I have made friends with four gentlemen that are close to my age and are confined to a wheelchair. One used to be a bass fisherman and he always wants me to go over my latest fishing trip with him. Another knows a lot of the same people I did in high school and we enjoy talking old times. This year I promised to make a big batch of wings and come over to the nursing home and watch it with them. They are no different than the rest of us but are unfortunately confined to a wheel chair. I really thing I get much more from spending time with them than some of my regular friends. They take nothing for granted and are very appreciative of small things like a nice day that they can just go out in the sun and sit or a relative or friend to just come by and visit.
It certainly reminds me of how blessed I am and that anything can happen at anytime to change our lives.
If you have spare time on your hand I would suggest visting a nursing home. Their are some fine people there that are just not as lucky as us and would appreciate your visits.
