They do not have a early catch and release season and it is strictly enforced.

Southeastern Ontario where I go is now the 3rd Saturday of June for bass opening, has been that way for several years so it does vary according to the fish management zone. Personally I prefer a couple weeks later as the fish seem to recover from spawning and start feeding aggressively.

That is not correct. It is always the 4th Saturday in June. Which is June 22, 2024. This can be found on page 136 in the Ontario regs.

And most years the 4th Saturday in June would be the last Saturday in June.

    ^^^^^^^^^^ this is correct!

    NOTE:
The law is different in Canada unlike the states they don’t need to see you catch a bass in Canada it’s the "Intent" if they pull up on you and you have what they consider bass baits out then you are fishing for bass and will be ticketed

Have to wonder if you are out in 7 to 10 foot of water or so and have a tube tied on, is that considered targeting smallies during the closed season? I know we have been in St Annes bay in around 4 feet of water and it was fish on pretty much every cast. This was back before it was well known that targeting was serious business. We have caught many walleye, pike and jumbo perch on a tube up there.

It seems to be more of a guilty unless you can prove yourself innocent type deal. A spinnerbait is a very effective lure to catch pike on.

That being said, everyone knows the rule only Wheeler type would walk into that "grey" area.

    I'm not doing it.

You do not want to get caught. They can and will impound your boat and gear.

The officers can fine you for not having a fishing license and/or the required saftey gear in your boat. Ontario fishing regulations can vary by zone and there are 20 different zones. Best to check out current regulations at ontario.ca/fishing.
