Merc Prop on SHO

So, I know I need the Mercury to SHO drive hub from Merc/Quiksilver...I have that. My question is do I need the little square plug that comes with the true Mercury hubs for a Mercury motor. Both hubs I have for my SHO are missing the little square plug leaving the forward most section of the hub that mates with the thrust washer wide open. I ask this because I made a long run a few months ago and spun the hub. I have had my SHO prop on since, and haven't had a bit of problems. What hub kit is everyone running to run Merc props on a SHO that will last? Do they make the same style hub that the ProXS runs for the SHO?
