    Florida Vacation Ideas

Looking for someplace to stay on the gulf that isn't resort type atmosphere with high rises and such. Nice beaches and able to fish from beach with some good seafood places to eat at. Just something laid back without all the noise and action. Looking for a condo or home by the beach with pool and able to grill out. Head down in July after the fourth.

We’ve stayed a couple of times on Anne Marie Island. Only two high rises on the whole island, it has a very “old Florida” vibe about it. Friendly island, beautiful white sand beaches, relatively easy access. I’ve seen fish caught from the beach, but I don’t think beach fishing is particularly good there. There are several piers that guys fish from that seem to be more productive than beach fishing.

    Orange beach is in Alabama.

Fort Morgan Road, Gulf Shores, Al. Several great places to eat in Gulf Shores.

Granted, it's not Florida, but Ft Morgan is ideal for what you are describing. The last 5-6 miles (headed west) is nothing but houses and some of the best fishing from the beach you will find. Many days we have fished and cooked the catch that night. The only thing lacking is nearby restaurants. You've got Tacky Jack's down near the end, Jesse's on the Bay a few miles back. If you don't mind driving 20 minutes back into Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, there are many great places to eat. About 30 to 40 minutes away, depending on traffic are the outlet stores in Foley, the women love to go there. If you get roped into going, stop in at Lamberts for lunch.

A place in Florida like you described that we have visited but not fished is St George Island, near Apalachicola. Mostly houses on the beach. In my minds eye it ought to be great fishing, but I have not researched it.

Check out Cape San Blas. It’s in the panhandle. Lots of houses to rent. I usually go in April

Several different options in the Keys, we did a nice little place with a boat dock on the water on Conch Key. Rented a CC boat for a few days they delivered to us on the water.

We've been there a few times and rented a house right on the sand. There's a guy there that makes awesome doughnuts every morning and Long Bill's has good food.

I would love to get some of that someday with my wife.

I would send a pm to Manatee Mauler. He is always looking for more people to join him in Florida.

The general area of Orange Beach as mentioned. Seemed to be the least busiest and most relaxed area. The more Eastward you move, the busier and more commercialized everything seems to become.

Just make sure you’re aware of the shark fishing rules and regulations in Alabama. They’re kinda interesting.
