    Crappie Record Nullification in Kansas

Does anyone know why a DNR officer would get a warrant and take your crappie away from you?

It's possible his weight wasn't taken on a certified scale. I think that is one of the requirements. I don't remember reading anything about that on the link you provided.

    I don't think that's a criminal act. Doesn't warrant a warrant

If he falsified the record application ie. reporting that he used the correct scales when he actually didn't then that would be fraudulent. That is just one plausible idea and it would be criminal. There may be another explanation also.

He might have caught it in the Boss’s fishing hole.

It's possible the method of catching came into question. Meaning caught by net, limb line, trot line, trap, or hand. It's also possible the location is questioned.

I find it funny that after nearly a year they haven't closed their investigation. I have to imagine it's not that complex.

Did he have a current fishing license at the time of the catch, or buy one after.

Could his fish is a black crappie and not a white crappie, or does it not matter for the State record?

^^^This is what I was thinking could be the issue. The record black crappie is much bigger.

A wildlife/fisheries violation I’d guess. I’ve seen the same happen with “record book” deer. When the kill gets scrutinized, accusations get made, authorities investigate, and some form of violation is found; trespassing, spotlighting, baiting, no license, etc. This always ends up with GW confiscating the illegally obtained resources - horns, meat, etc.

I’d guess the guy didn’t have a license or was fishing somewhere he was not allowed to fish.
