I'd jump on it if: the motor and transom checks out.

Positives for me: Single console, Yamaha that you can add HP to, Dual axle trailer, Price...can't find a better boat for the money, Clean and doesn't look like a lot of crap has been added or drilled in to, Aurora cover, It won't depreciate....in fact you will probably get your money back or even make money when you get rid of it.

Negatives: None but probably needs a 25 Tempest. Someone has probably already beat you to it.

Ive been in my 188 elite for 4 years now and could not be happier. Great boat and a great ride for a sub 19ft rig. If I was looking I would go buy if motor runs and hull hasnt been abused.

If it was around when I was looking for a new boat it would definitely get my attention. Could have saved me a lot of $$$.

I'd jump on it as well. Love my 210 but would also like a nimble with larger fishing platform like this 188.

That's an outstanding boat for upgrades. I'd head over to Hydrotec marine and trade for a 200hp flashed SHO and then over to Russell Marine and buy some used graphs.

If that boat was in the Midwest, it would have been sold months ago. The Yamaha 3.1L OX66 is arguably one of the best 2-stroke outboards ever. The 188 is a top performer, get it dialed in and she should be knocking on 70mph.

The tandem axle trailer is also nice, most came with a single axle.

I had a 3.1L OX66 from Hydrotec. I loved and miss that motor. For years I always looked for a single console 188 to pop up close to me, unfortunately one never did. If you're in the market, go get it and report back!

Going tomorrow to get it. Owner informed me of the history of the boat. Top cap was cut and buffed. Some small crazing in the gel coat you can see when close to the hull but not too bad IMHO. The boat was neglected and the current owner replaced a lot of things to get it in good condition. He sent a video of the unit taking off from his 203. I think that with a couple of fish finders and an updated trolling motor it will serve me fine. I will report back tomorrow with pictures. Thanks to all.

I would be more concerned of any bigger stress cracks than crazing, especially near the back corners and transom area. Inspect those areas thoroughly.

Thank you. He sent a lot of pictures. Said this was the only areas that had crazing. I'll report back later. Don't think the boat has a lot of hours. Pictures of the bottom and rub rails look fine. I think a dealer had it a left ot outdoors. He stated that he had to replace 3 fuels pumps after servicing and it ran fine the 3 times he took it out last year. He included a video of it taking off. Typical high bow rise of a Champion. He has a nice 203 and got this one for his son. They just don't have enough time to run it. Very upfront and honest over the phone.

Great find. I still pinch myself when I'm in my 186. Going on 9 years.
