    MPG

The other day I got to ride again for a bit. I filled with gas and checked the mileage. It came out to 50.077 mpg. That tank was mostly highway speed and 93 octane. The previous tank I checked came out to 49.745 mpg and it also was 93 octane. That tank was mostly 40 mph on windy hilly roads. I think the manual calls for an octane rating of 89 or more but I'm not certain, I'll have to check.

It's been several years since I have had a road bike but I enjoyed the fuel savings along with the ride. Is 50 mpg about the average for these road bikes? Yamaha star 950.

I would think that has to be close to average depending on how you ride. Me? I like to be a bit heavy on the throttle once in awhile...

That’s kind of what I thought. Before long I plan to do an oil change and a new set of spark plugs. The manual says fuel octane minimum is 86 so I can use regular grade gas. I plan to check mileage on several more tanks this spring to see if that 50 mpg holds up.

I get around 44 - 45 on my Street Bob, but it is so fun to ride that I tend to have a heavy throttle hand. I could probably get 50 if I eased up, but NAH I'm good. My manual calls for minimum of 91 octane.

My GL1800 got about 43 didn't matter what speed you ran. A friend who we rode with often if we were not on the expressway his 2004 Yamaha Royal Star Venture would get 46 to 48 until we got on the expressway at 75 to 80 it got around 39.
