I experiment with all the different types and let the fish tell me what they prefer that day. When fishing with a partner, it's easier to pinpoint if you both start with a different style and adjust accordingly. But, I've found when the fish are really slamming, it really doesn't matter what trailer has been on the back, and have caught them without any trailer.

Zako or a blade minnow for me..

does anyone else notice these two don’t really have much action to them though? They barely vibrate unless I really burn it in. But they still work

For those who haven't figured it out just about all chatter baits need to be broken in. Meaning at least 100 casts with them to get them to hunt properly. Especially the jack hammer series.

The trailer doesn't make much difference once you get it to hunt.

For me it is always about matching the size of the bait in the lake with the trailer. Small bait ,small trailer. Large bait, large trailer.

Razor Shad, Spunk Shad, or Zman Goat if I want a different profile. I just picked up some chatter spikes to try also

Last couple of years I've been using a Bass Assassin split tail shad a lot. Also use the straight tail shad (also my scrounger bait). They both hold up well.

Spunk shad is my go too for most days. If I want a bigger profile I use the 10000 fish yoto worm. The best I ever used were jackall 4.8 I shads but they dont make that size anymore apparently.

Just like a buzz bait needs to be broken in, so does a chatter bait. The use of the blade and banging on the jig head changes the action to make it hunt.

If your chatter bait is coming in straight and not hunting you are missing out on some bass.

Best I ever used was the Berkley Havoc Subwoofer. I use the Zako a lot, and the Zman twin tail some. No luck with the spunk shad style trailers though.

I know everyone has their favorite , my op question was kinda like do you feel a paddle tail type trailer kills some or even all of the chatterbait?

To answer your question yes I absolutely think a paddle tail kills the action. I've tried a ton of trailers on baits in my pool and paddle tail baits seem to fight against the natural movement of the bait giving it a very strange action. Does it still catch fish, yes. Does it look natural, no.

Yeah indeed, although a paddle tail with a skinnier smooth (non ribbed) body helps to reduce drag, as does cutting the paddle (I cut mine into a "V" pattern in the back with a slight squared off bottom and sides.
