    Rattle trap hooks?

Been slaying them this week on a Spro ARuku Shad Jr. 65. I lost the last of my older ones and am now throwing the newer version (#6 hooks)
Problem is I’m struggling to keep bigger fish pinned. I had one jump and throw it that was well North of 8# and possibly a DD.
Anyway I’m about ready to put #5’s on them.
Should I just start with the front hook or change out both? I don’t think it will effect the action as that’s how they were once sold. Just curious.
All 4 that I list were big enough to pull drag.Landed 20+ that went 3# and under.

You might try to bend your hooks outwards ever so slightly,I've even taken my trebles and bend them to the right/left the way Excalibur makes them. Makes a lot of difference in getting them in the boat.

Thanks. They’re eating it good, just not getting those smaller hooks to hold.I guess I’ll start with 4 up front and a five in the back and see how it goes.

Whatever hook you use make sure it's short shank and round bend.

What rod are you using ? Is it meant for moving/treble hook baits ? Too fast/stiff of a top end can pull treble hook baits away from a decent size fish.

I have really never bought into this theory/belief. Now I do think drag, thumbing the spool helps if fish surges

Rod is a good trap rod for grass. 7’3”H Powell Max. It’s pretty much a mod/fast action.

Ok, it was just a thought. I’d go with the above hook advice you were already given

Change your rod, it's too heavy of an action. Use two #4 Gamakatsu, short shank, EWG.

I agree with this, I like the Endurance 733 or 725cb or 724cb for a 1/4oz. As for hooks, I've not experienced the "eating it" scenario so I shy away from the triple grips. I'll use a round bend Gammy which are pretty soft, butt very sticky.

I'm actually in Florida for the winter. Just an update.... I switched over to a #4 on the front and a five on the back. Still slaying them and I haven't lost but one or two fish.
