    Our Dog Maggie

Our long coated retriever, almost 13, is in declining health, especially arthritis which makes it hard for her to walk. So we've made the tough decision, today is her last day. Will be especially hard on my wife as Maggie was there for her during some tough times.

Today Maggie has been spoiled--pancakes for breakfast, leftover steak and milk for lunch. Before we leave she'll get a piece of cake.

We know it's time and are at peace with it, but it is stiil difficult as many of you know. She's had a good life, chasing squirrels, laying with us in the evenings, playing with the kids. We are sad but happy she will no longer be in pain.

Give your pets an extra hug tonight, they bring us such great joy.

Its such a tough thing to go through. The house will feel empty for a while...be sure to keep yourselves busy for the next little while.

It's never easy. Best of luck to you and your wife, it's a hard decision but sounds like you made the correct one for you and Maggie.

It's tough, my advice is to think about her for a few days afterwards and then head down to the nearest rescue and get another one who needs a loving home.

Tough for sure, prayers for your family.

I'm in the same spot with our 13yo yellow lab Sadie, legs giving out and falls down sometimes. She is still happy, eating, greets everyone at the door, plays with our other two dogs, and wagging her tail a bunch.
