yes do it all the time. make sure too get a long enough leash to go around the motor. couple of feet behind motor.

I also think they make a rear seat post that you can use as well that will raise the rope etc so you can tow that way as well.

Personally, I would avoid using the rear seat post type. They can make a real mess of the outboard if they come out. I have seen this before.

I understand that using any kind of "post or pole" is a no-no when towing a tube. Tubes just put a lot of stress on the tow point and there are reports of the post being pulled out and flying back and injuring someone on the tube. It's your choice but please be careful. I used to tow my kids around with my fish and ski boats. My first one was an 18' with a 115 hp engine and it towed them just fine using the two hooks on the transom, I used a Y-tow harness that floated to help keep the line out of the prop when you stop. Especially with kids you don't need to tow over 25 mph and that would only be in real smooth water. For towing you might need to invest in a lower pitch prop just so you can get up on plane and tow them at a lower speed.
