I have broken skim ice with my canoe.
And I have had buddy back me in slowly, so I can break skim ice with a paddle. While still on the trailer to get the boat in.

In MN for work, will be doing some ice fishing for the 1st time eventually. Warmer than normal temps and lower than normal precipitation so far. They're all telling me there should be snow on the ground, but nope. Had 1 snow day before Halloween.

Saturday I launched at a lake, ran down the lake on pad, for about a mile and was concentrating on spotting floating debris. When I got to my first spot, I shutdown. As I stepped onto the front deck, I heard this weird noise coming from down the lake. It sounded like a million dominos falling. As it got closer, I could finally see what was causing the noise. I hadn't noticed that there was a layer of skim ice coming out from the bank about 20 yards. My wake was breaking it all up as it rolled down the lake. I finally took at look at water temp and it was 33°. When it was time to go back down to the launch, I had to dodge icebergs.

Two years ago we were building snowman on the deck on our boats. If you not breaking or chasing ice, your not having fun.

They have been ice fishing out in front of our place for 5 days. Only using portables now as there is only 4 to 5 inches of clear ice.

Snow? Nope. Line freezing in the guides? Nope. Other than that I'll fish until they lay down that first thick layer of salt on the roads and then I'm done. Until then, anything to shorten the horrid winter up here. Every day that goes by that I can see grass, I'm happy.
There was a time that I didn't fish but I cannot remember it.

No thanks, the salt on the roads ruins the trailer and wire connections.
