    Question What Could Cause This?

    2013 250 Pro XS

I ran the boat today for a couple of hours never getting faster than on plane - 30mph. Motor sounded great.
Put her on the trailer and while wiping her down noticed what you see in the pictures. Oil on the motor. What could it be?

Looks like dfi oil. Take cowl off and check for leaking oil pump and lines.

More like a loose bleed screw or a broken line, never seen a pump leak that much.
    Thank You Leon Pugh

    Agree about the DFI oil
I haven’t had it out for four months. Hmmm…just strange.

I’ll check those. Can’t afford to lose any DFI oil !!
    Thanks.

Why use DFI oil when there is much better oil and cheaper out there. I run 2 pro xs 250's and never will use DFI oil.

Probably a loose cap. Didn't seem very tight. Ran it (shile on a water hose), filled the tank and I didn't see a leak while it wa under pressure. If that's the case, that would be great!

UPDATE - Got it cleaned up and I think it was just a loose tank cap. I ran it, pressurixed the tank and no leaks.

    Thanks for yall's help!

"Better and Cheaper" are definitely debatable.

For oil information, please consult the FAQ Section, or the Engine Owner's Manual (which may have been updated).

You get what you pay for. I don't see many major motor issues with proper oil. I have seen issues with Wal Mart and other brands. Is the oil the problem? I don't know but it sure seems that way. Average rebuild of a powerhead by itself is over $4k without any labor. Why risk it?
