None. To be honest. It will cost you several small fortunes to keep it going for a young driver.

Condition is everything. Not sure I'd pay asking price for it or even close to that. Make sure you get it checked out by a good honest mechanic if you think you might buy it.

Have a mechanic take a look at it. It's worth a few bucks for a check on an older and high mileage vehicle, it could have a 10k mile rebuilt motor/tranny in it or the original on its last legs motor.

Used prices are ridiculous. I was looking to buy one as a beater. You can’t find any for a cheap price.

Unless its in mint condition (no rust), that price is too high.

The cheap 4x4 in decent mechanical condition basically doesn't exist anymore. The floor used to be 5K, now its more like 10K. Doesn't matter what bluebook says

I have owned 5 Rangers 1988, 1994, 2000, 2001, 2001 ..all but one had the 3.0 V6 (one of Ford's reliable OMO) None were 4x4....One of the problems I have had 3 different times is the radiators Ford uses. The transmission coolant lines run through the radiator and its not if, its when the truck overheats for whatever reason (blown radiator hose, etc.) the joints for the transmission coolant line come loose inside the radiator. You'll see the coolant have an oily residue and the transmission fluid will be milky. If this is not fixed right away you'll be rebuilding a transmission. They can be a very reliable vehicle, but replace the water pump, and put in a quality radiator. Few problems other than cooling. The last one I owned was a 2001 Splash in great condition with 172,000 miles - I sold it last year for $3,000
That being said 191,000 miles is alot of miles and they can last longer but they become a dollar dump after awhile. Brakes, U- joints, front end work (gotta replace those bushings!) and the gas gauge will enviably stop working - I was 5 for 5 there!

Same thing I was thinking. 25 years ago. I destroyed a 4x4 as my first truck. My son will not be getting a 4x4.

    3.0 was a better engine then 4.0.

....to add- all of 4 the 3.0 liter V-6 I've had hardly ever burned any oil between oil changes (Mobil One 10W30-5.000 miles)) The old Ford mechanic saying was "the car falls apart around the motor"

5600 is way high for that, the auto is the biggest concern, also I wouldn't buy it if it has the 3.0 V6 that motor is completley worthless, gets the same fuel milage as a 4.0 with the power of a 4 cyl.

Don't understand that logic, all I have ever owned since I was 15 are 4x4 and never destroyed any of them. 4.0 is a far better engine than the 3.0, you couldn't give me one with a 3.0 it's a gutless fuel wasting pig. Either get the 4.0 v6 for power or the 4 cylinder for fuel economy, the 3.0 is terrible at both.

If you really like it, offer him half his asking price.
