Cruise control in the rain...yes or no

My wife and I were driving home from my daughter's volleyball game last Saturday and for most of the ride home it rained. We went through one patch of a really hard downpour, but most of the time it was just a nice steady rain. I tend to leave my cruise control on even when it's raining, as long as the road is just wet and there is not standing water on the road. If there's standing water (like when going through the downpour), I take it off cruise control. My wife always gives me a hard time and thinks that if the road is wet at all, I shouldn't have the cruise control on. What is your stance on cruise control while driving in the rain?

Living where I do, if I didn't use it in the rain I wouldn't use it at all

Obviously like you said, standing water or first rain after a long dry spell its a bad idea, but most of the time its fine.

Never use it when it's raining and absolutely not when driving in winter conditions.

To me it would depend on the road and how much traffic.

A lot of that is outdated, especially with modern traction control. Modern cars aren't going to let you spin like crazy one you lose traction with cruise control on. Would I use it in snowy conditions or standing water? No, but normal rain isn't a huge deal.

These are my thoughts as well. With traction control and better tires than we had decades ago, I never feel like if the road is simply wet that I'm losing any traction or any control when I have cruise control on. As stated, in heavy rain or wintery conditions, I don't use it.

I rarely use cruise control at all, certainly not in the rain. It's a thing with me..when driving, I want to be in control. I would not do well in one of the current hands free driving vehicles.

Checked the owners manual on my Toyota Tacoma and the manual advised not to use in adverse weather conditions to include rain.

A Lot of people who end up in a wreck feel the same way.
