    Check Engine Light

    0T076179- 2000- Analog

I'd like to install a dash mounted check engine light. My motor is analog and pre-smart craft. The warning horn only gives so much info and the horn doesn't sound for all systems.

Wiring looks very simple for this to be an easy add on.

A loose orange wire from ecu is labeled as the CEL. Should this run to power or ground on an indicator light? If ground, is the power coming from acc power(purple). If power, is the ground as simple as a ground to the block?

I imagine the only way to test this is a quick light flash on/off at key up? Is this how the CEL works?

    thx

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to wire to anything at or connected to the ECU.

At the CONSOLE: Install an LED LIGHT (Red works great) of your choosing, by wiring it in PARALLEL with the Warning Horn.

Purple wire at the horn is 12V+ Key Switched Power.

Tan w/Blue Stripe wire is 12V- (SIGNAL) for the Warning Horn.

Leave the warning horn connected as well- the light will illuminate anytime the warning horn sounds.

The horn works fine for me. I was just looking for a CEL for the systems the horn doesn’t sound for. ie- injector faults, etc.
Guess that’s not possible based on post #2?

Those features would be part of a Smartcraft Instrument.

My motor had the option, back in the day, of a 4 function multi gauge (79-859699A1). Service manual shows this as an option. One of those functions included the CEL. This is all specified in the service manual. Isn't this gauge a simple set up with "dummy lights"? This gauge is very hard to find these days which is why I wanted to add the CEL separately.
