    Hydration

Intravenous hydration to be exact, anyone ever get hooked up to an IV specifically for hydration? We have a new local business thats touting the benefits of it but its a tad pricey at $100 per session give or take. Claims it helps with day to day aches and pains. Snake oil or the real deal? I know I could stand to drink more water and less coffee and beer

I really like Liquid IV, they sell it at WalMart back by all the sports drinks. Its a powder you put in water. I think it really works after a hard day of sweating.

Snake oil. Any time you puncture a vein you have potential of major risks of complications.

I am surprised the company could get a license to do a medical procedure like that. I doubt the FDA knows about it.

There are probably 100 such businesses locally in the Dallas- Fort Worth area that provide IVs for hydration etc.
It's getting pretty popular as more of them keep popping up. They are regulated by the state departjent of health and are staffed with RNs and techs. They usually have a physician or physicians on staff that acts as medical director for the facility.
I've never been to one but they are popular here. Some of them recruited several nurses from an ER I worked at part time in over the winter.

Hell yes they work,,, IV is the fastest way to get hydrated ,, it puts things direct into your blood stream instead of having to go the long way around thru the digestive track ,,,the most effective way to get fluid, medicine , nutrition into your body is through an IV ,,,

Real deal. I've also heard they're even better for when you're sick.

It would work, but completely unnecessary except for in extreme conditions. Drinking water or sports drinks will do the same. Only time an I.V. would really help is when you get extremely dehydrated, they do it for athletes when playing in extreme heat or if you are losing a lot of water from being sick. Otherwise you are paying $100 for something that a couple glasses of water would do. Hydrating by I.V. doesn't do anything for you that drinking water doesn't except for the speed that it starts helping.

Don't let yourself get to that point that you need an IV...... It's no joke and I've fainted and hurt myself pretty bad because of it. Drink plenty of fluids and monitor your urine. If it's dark or you're not realling going, drink more. If you can drive yourself to one of these places, fill out paperwork and pay your bill, chances are you can just sit down and have a glass or two of water and you'll be fine. Know your body and what it's telling you is my advise.

My wife has a cousin running one in the KC area and he is doing well. Stopped going to school to become a MD to run it.

Yep; we did too...always called it cross training, since everyone had to know how to start an IV.
