Added 5 degree wedges to 198

I have a late model 2005 198. I have an 2005 Yamaha hpdi 225hp. Added 5 degree wedges between the motor and jackplate. I am now seeing a ton more lift. Hitting 70 top end. I have noticed now the boat comes out of the hole a noticeably slower. Anyone have any suggestions on the prop that I need to run on it.

Well inhave an 04 198 was having issues finally put the right prop on her and man did it make a huge diff. Only ran 62 with a 25 tempest before, installed a 26 tempest plus and now I lift like crazy and run 72.4. Didn’t have to add wedges either. I however am
running trim extenders gained about 1 mph *♂️*♂️*♂️

You lost hole shot because of the increased trim of the wedges at full down trim. Trim extenders would have probably been the better choice.

A tempest may be a better prop.

Trim extenders don't take affect until the rams contact the motor. Trim wedges angle the entire motor and trim assy on the transom

The rams contact it the entire time it’s in trim mode. Just checked my Yamaha to see.

I may take the wedges out and put a 26p tempest plus in and see if that changes things.

The extenders can put extra strain on the motor slides supports when turning. I don’t know the proper name, for it, I’ll try to find a picture.

This part, the extenders move this out and it doesn’t have the same amount of strength when turning the boat.

I had a 2008 Champ 198 with a Yamaha HPDI 225. (My favorite boat ever). The ticket for me was a 25 Tempest worked by Mark Croxton. It had a good holeshot with a ton of bow lift and would run 72mph all day long. I also found that it ran the best about 2 1/2” - 2 3/4” below pad.

I am trying to track down 5 degree wedges for my 2005, 206 now. I run a 250 Pro XS four stroke on it. I noticed how sensitive the boat is to loading. I had a set of Mercury Trim extenders from a previous Ranger. Made a significant difference in performance last night fully loaded. Was not able to over trim either. did change the hole shot, but since adding the four stroke, hole shot is not an issue at all. My 206 is pretty much a rocket out of the hole now. was not the case with the original two stroke. I was told that Mercury recommends a solid 1 piece wedge if a wedge is used. Struggling to find one other than the Panther brand. Not sure I like there design. Rally looking for a solid 1 piece. Not one that is all milled out on the back side. Has anyone found a solid one piece wedge? I was told they are out there, but struggling to find one that works for me.
