    Unhappy Not a good day

Went fishing today, tough day, only caught 12, on the way back in, my motor felt like it lost some power and sounded a little strange. Started to stop and check, glad I didn't, got back to the ramp and came off plane, motor shut down, then wouldn't start back up, but didn't sound very good when it was trying to turn over, haven't pulled the spark plugs yet, but there's some oil residue under the butterfly, hope it's not gone, only 191 hours on a 2016 300XS

Pull the cowl off and check the 2 wire sensor on the vst tank(fuel reservoir). It is the water in fuel sensor. It is made of plastic and epoxy holds the wires in place. My 300xs did just what you said yours did and the epoxy had had failed and gas was pouring out of the fitting starving the motor. Put a new one in and she ran like a top.

Todd, did you have any alarms during the issue?

That sensor is worth having on hand. Mine just failed and I had to wait a couple weeks for a replacement. The ethanol fuel eats away at that epoxy.

No Randy, no alarms, didn't even check my Smartcraft gauge, and I only use Premium non ethanol gas, I'll see if I can find that part today

I just had this happen a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately I launched in Texas and was way up into Oklahoma when it crapped out.

I now carry a 1/2 x 20 hex bolt with the orange gasket to get me out of a jam if need be.

If the sensor went bad, it “should” have alarmed. You can’t see any gas leaks? Could be your low pressure pump going out and not feeding your high press pump properly and causing the same issue as a leak. Causing a lean out. Very long and it would have drove your temp up.

does it come out with a wrench? look like that's how it would come out, and no, it didn't get hot either, not really any gas leaks, there is a little residual around the bottom of the driver's side fuel rail, but the hoses that go into it are tight

Mine didn't alarm. It will need to be running to check for leak. I used a line wrench on mine.
