    Lake Ontario weather

I have been going to Thousand Islands for many years and have a question of Lake Ontario maximum wind limits to comfortably fish?
I generally stay in the river and on the calmer days I will venture out into the lake.
For some reason I remember 14 mph?
But I think most important, what direction is the worst?
I generally use the NOAA weather app.
    Thanks

SW is the worst, it is blowing right up the lake at that direction

anything about 15 makes it rough

Northeast isn't terrible because it blows over your head out into the lake

Be aware that a calm day on the river after a couple of days of a stout SW wind might mean the lake is still rolling. We've had to turn around a few times over the years because of this.

We used to have a place in Fair Haven (southeast basin of Ontario). We used to call it a “3 day blow” where after a very windy day the lake would be consistently rough for 3 days after.

To the OP, like said above a South/West wind is the worst. North/East winds aren’t too bad. The waves on Lake Ontario are “rollers”. They the frequency is longer than typical waves so it makes you more prone to spearing them. Can turn bad in a hurry. Best thing to do is check some cameras and wind forecasts. Also the best safety you could use is the mushy thing between your ears. If you think it’s too rough, don’t risk it for stupid brown fish

Try Windy App, it's pretty good.

I fish Lake Ontario from spring thru fall. I like windfinder dot com for my wind forecast.
