    Tire Whiskers After Hauling

This might be a strange one, but i hauled my boat last weekend for the first time in a while. About 180 miles over the weekend. When I got home I was going over everything and I noticed that my tires had the rubber whiskers all over them. They definitely were not there before because I had just washed the boat and tires by hand the week before. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Remnants of the manufacturing process. Has nothing to do with putting miles on the tires. They were already there.

Never remember seeing rubber whiskers on sidewalls. Are you trolling?

They grow on long trips over 70mph. Have to stop and trim them every 100 miles over 65

I scrubbed and shined the tires by hand very thoroughly two days before I took it on the road. The whiskers were absolutely not there haha. I don’t know what else to say but apparently it doesn’t seem to be a major issue. Tires are at least five years old but don’t have a ton of miles on them. I 100% promise this isn’t a bit.

It happens. Nitrogen & high humidity sulfur. Somewhere you passed thru an abnormally high sulfate rich air atmosphere. Wherever you aired up had much water in the compressor. The nitrogen mixed with the water (H2O) had a reaction and was looking for a way out. The surfer in the air where’s er you were softened the rubber and allowed the inner mixture to begin to permeate out. The strand are mostly kicked off at speed and never noticed. Go look under the fender and tail lights. See if there is rubbery spiderwebbing built up behind the tailights.

Either way it’s okay, but if we’re me I’d unmount the tires and get the water out. You probably noticed more bounce from unbalanced. Wash the side walls with a baking soda water or even rinse with old milk and hose off. You’re fine. Go fish.
Hang on. I'll help you in 77 minutes.

Might want to replace them if they're over 5 years old unless you just live a couple miles from the ramp. Yes I'm being serious...or just lather them up with shaving cream and shave them.

My trailer tires and truck tires have whiskers all over them. Have had them since new.

Life is a balance. Many more people suffer with bald tires. Count your blessings.
